Fast processing models effects of reflections on binaural unmasking

چکیده
Sound reflections and late reverberation alter energetic binaural cues of a target source, thereby affecting its detection in noise. Two experiments investigated harmonic complex tones, centered around 500 Hz, noise, virtual room with different modifications simulated impulse responses (RIRs). Stimuli were auralized using the Simulated Open Field Environment’s (SOFE’s) loudspeakers anechoic space. The was presented from front (0°) or 60° azimuth, while an noise masker simultaneously at 0°. In first experiment, early progressively added to RIR thresholds reverberant measured. For frontal sound decreased adding within 45 ms, whereas for lateral remained constant. second removed kept along direct sound. Results 0° show that even as 150 ms reduce compared only A model sluggishness component following computation unmasking short windows predicts measured literature results better than when large are used.

Multichannel speech reinforcement based on binaural unmasking
Speech reinforcement or near-end listening enhancement is a technique that modifies the far-end signal to mitigate the effect of the near-end noise, usually based on the power spectra of the far-end signal and the near-end noise. Psychoacoustic experiments have shown that the location of a noise source with respect to that of a signal source affects the amount of masking. Since conventional spe...

The addition of a signal in the N0Sπ binaural configuration gives rise to fluctuations in interaural phase and amplitude. Sensitivity to these individual cues was measured by applying sinusoidal amplitude modulation (AM) or quasi-frequency modulation (QFM) to a band of noise. Discrimination between interaurally in-phase and out-of-phase modulation was measured using an adaptive task for narrow ...

The mammalian auditory system is the temporally most precise sensory modality: To localize low-frequency sounds in space, the binaural system can resolve time differences between the ears with microsecond precision. In contrast, the binaural system appears sluggish in tracking changing interaural time differences as they arise from a low-frequency sound source moving along the horizontal plane....
